I attended Saint Mattress this Sunday morning...but fear not, fellow sinners. I got my fill of the Gospel...provided by Guy Forsyth. His Sunday night sessions at the legendary Antone's Nightclub in Austin, Texas have already become religious experiences. As overheard from one member of the crowd, "I've been transported to a completely wonderful place."
Guy is one of the most consistently great musicians in Austin - laying down Delta Blues, Louisiana Shuffle, Swing Rhythm and Blues or the occasional folk offering. And, really...anyone who can play guitar, dobro, mouth harp and saw (yeah, that kind of saw)...deserves plenty of accolades. But the true testament of these Sunday night shows is the audience. Guy's music is good for what ails ya...and he starts with yo' feet. Don't count on sitting still at this show...maybe long enough to take another sip of that Shiner Bock.
Everyone who makes the pilgrimage to the "Live Music Capital of the World" has been given this recommendation - see Guy Forsyth. And if you're lucky, you might see him perform "You're gonna' lose if you play with me."
