I think one of the ways you can tell you are still an adolescent is if you fidget or if you play with stuff...at slightly inopportune times. Lately I have been receiving a number of "good luck" pieces...charms, really. My grandfather's Silver Dollar he carried, a white arrowhead from my father, a seed from a friend’s farm in Illinois, a rock found on the Pacific coast. So, I am now carrying around 5 or 6 pieces of stuff, destined to bring me good luck...I feel like a shaman.
In a meeting today, a portion of time was spent discussing a topic not related to me or my work. So, I fidget...I fish in my pocket and...oh, look...cool...good luck piece. Of course...I play with it. Yep...right under the table it goes...rolls...right under the foot of the person leading the meeting. I don't think anyone else saw what happened...so I pretend to do a deep stretch and look under the table. Too far...there's no way I can reach under there without bringing lots of attention. So, I wait...wait...wait...lull...DIVE and grab it. Piece unharmed, luck still in tact.
You know how I know the luck is still there? Deja vu about 5 minutes after all that happened. Damn, I love luck...
