Took in a show last night at Duffy's here in Lincoln, Nebraska. I have to say, it's the first place I've been in this city where people were friendly, had their own since of style and knew how to drink. Met some locals after a couple of minutes and got some information of other spots to check, prior to my departure.
Folks - this will be much easier if you all accept it. If god wanted the letter "x" in the word especially, she would have put it there...
Headliner tonight was Evil Beaver. Two rock / sex goddesses from Chicago who lay down thrash-punk and metal at a pace that the Sabbath would have trouble following. Laura Ann (drums) was the illegitimate daughter of John Bonham and Marianne Faithful - unreal beats. Bass / Vocals played and sung with middle-finger fire and latex brimstone - Evie (bass / vocals) took a 2 minute break after the first 3 songs to emerge behind the small wall of speakers in a Silver Surfer tank top and 60's go-go shorts. The look was eye catching, but the sounds were the real prize. Chorded bass lines, power mash and tongue lashing lyrics - it was all too short for a 45-minute set.
My dream double-bill? Evil Beaver and Mary Prankster . Mothers’...lock up your sons'...or you will lose them to punk rock heaven.
