You owe yourself a trip to the local independent theater to see "Standing in the Shadows of Motown." The story of The Funk Brothers needs to be heard and understood by anyone who owns any record by Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, The Supremes...any of the Motown power groups. It's late in coming, but these pioneers of Soul and R&B deserve your attention and praise...even if only for 2 hours. I won't give any of the story away, but you will smile and sing along for the majority of the time...and every minute gives you some reaction, some feeling. Not many outlets of modern media can claim to do that...
My only complaint is specific to one artist...Gerald Levert. I bought the LSG album and appreciate him as a powerful singer. But can't you put on a decent pair of pants? Got the entire Funk Brothers band behind you, a SRO audience and you're singing "Reach Out, I'll Be There"...and you show up in a pair of sweat pants? Damn...
