It's a harsh realization, but I've made it...and others should too. While at work, I am not funny. Something happens when I shave in the morning, put on the monkey suit, scan the badge on the way in - I am all about the business. I'm friendly...I smile and talk to people...but I am not capable of cracking jokes to colleagues between the hours of 7am and 7pm while inside an office. It's a small shortcoming...doesn't mean I'm too focused or serious. But in my work / business personality I just don't make jokes - and when I try - disaster.
The people that can be funny while at work are a rare breed - respect them, appreciate the delicate balance they walk...and look in shock and wonder when they will inevitably take a joke too far and see how they get out of it (or if - while they make that uncomfortable walk from office to front door with belongings in hand).
I should say that I work in semi- to very strict corporate America during the day...and absolutely "no rules" music business at night. Also a delicate balance, but it fits with the whole Libra code: Balance, moderation; a little bit country, a little bit rock-and-roll.
So...if you feel the same way - join me. Let the funny people be funny. Be one of their audience - get your enjoyment from the show, not from trying to be one of the actors. Deal? Right on.
