You're a witch if I've ever known one...
What's 4 years between friends?

Tuesday, October 28, 2003

Last night was the first taste of real cold in Chicago. Sure, you scoff...but this shock to my system let's me know what I'm in for during the next 6 months. I'm taking a friend's advice from last winter in Nebraska and buying a humidifier - sure to be set on "rain forest."

Also, last night was a chance to see Denali at the Empty Bottle. Denali = Maura Davis and Keeley Davis (bro and sis), Jonathan and Cam. Keeley is old Savannah and Denali played the last show at the Cafe Metropole - they tore the roof off...literally. I've heard the first record 10 times...maybe? The arrangements are sparse and powerful...Maura has a soprano voice with great tone and interesting phrasing...Keeley moves from electric bass to Korg Bass and programming pretty easily.

I liked the show - the performance left an impact, just not as deep and impressive as I would have liked. But...hell, they played 2 shows at CMJ, drove directly from NYC to Chicago to make this date and are all sharing the same nasty cold. Man, doesn't the road sound great!

Keeley and Jonathan are also in Engine Down...which I've mentioned here previously...yes, they are leaving Denali to get back home and focus on one band at a time.

Last night was also a reunion with "the kid" - the bass player from David Zollo's Body Electric. Also mentioned here...I saw "the kid" almost kill a drunk at Duffy's in Lincoln, Nebraska after he began stripping during the song "While You Undress."
